UCI Degree and Summer Session Transcripts

UC Irvine and UC Irvine Division of Continuing Education are separate institutions. UCI DCE does not maintain transcripts for course work taken for degrees or through UCI Summer Session.

We strongly recommend that you review your Unofficial Transcript before ordering official transcripts. If you need transcripts for your degree or Summer Session courses, please visit the UCI Registrar’s website. Please be prepared to provide your UCI ID number.

Courses Taken Prior to 1985

If you attended Continuing Education (formerly University Extension) classes prior to 1985, fulfilling your order may take additional time. Please allow ample time for your order to be processed. If you need assistance accessing your UCI DCE online account to order official transcripts, please contact the Records office at dce-records@uci.edu.

Credits

Course Units and Hours

Academic credit is measured in quarter units and is indicated in the course description. One quarter unit is equivalent to two-thirds of a semester unit and amounts to 10 hours of evaluated learning in a continuing education course.

Courses Numbers/Letters

The letters preceding a course number indicate the University of California campus at which there is an equivalent course, e.g., XI-Irvine, XL-Los Angeles. A "C" immediately following the campus designation indicates a concurrent course (campus regular session course in which UCI Division of Continuing Education students may concurrently enroll), e.g., XIC-Irvine campus concurrent course. When the letter "X" alone is used, the course is offered only through UCI Division of Continuing Education and is not equivalent to a regular session course. A single capital letter after a course number indicates a sequential course that continues through two or more successive quarters. Course numbers are classified as:

Lower division
Requires successful completion of one year of college, or consent of instructor

Upper division
Requires successful completion of two years of college, or consent of instructor.

Graduate

Requires a Bachelor's degree and consent of instructor.

Professional credit courses in education

Requires employment as a teacher, teaching credential or equivalent background, unless otherwise noted.

Continuing Education Units (CEU’s)

Continuing Education Units are standardized non-credit measurements of post-secondary level study. Only non-credit courses with an 800 series number are designated to offer “Continuing Education Units” (CEU’s) where “CE” (continuing education) is written as the final grade. Courses eligible for letter grades will be categorized at a different series number such as 100, 200, 300, etc. CEU courses will not have an option for Pass/No Pass since “Pass” is equivalent to a C- or better.

Employers, re-licensure agencies and other authorities generally require a specified number of instruction hours for career advancement, and where noncredit study is acceptable.

Note: To earn a certificate, candidates will need complete courses with a minimum grade of C or B depending on the program. Certain courses are only offered on a Pass/Not Pass basis and will be noted in the course description.

Auditors are students who wish to attend UCI Division of Continuing Education courses but do not desire academic credit. Your work will not be evaluated (you are not required to take exams or complete projects). Students who choose to audit a course may attend any and all sessions of the course, participate in discussions, activities and assignments but are not required to do so.

To audit a course, students must follow regular registration procedures and pay the full fee listed for each course. Be sure to update your grade option as ‘audit’ and inform your instructor that you have selected this grade option. The course will appear on your transcript and will be graded with an “N” for “No Credit”.

No provisions for students to merely “sit-in” on UCI Division of Continuing Education courses are made and attendance without payment of fees is prohibited.

Concurrent Enrollment

Students enrolled in Concurrent Enrollment courses are subject to the UCI grading policy.
